Biography
Akashinga, is a non-profit organisation registered in Australia, predominantly operating on the African continent. The group initially created a structured military-like approach to conservation, employing tactics and technology generally reserved for the modern-day battlefield, and has since moved to a community oriented approach. This has included the training of local women as rangers.
Channel description
Akashinga delivers conservation programmes of global significance through community-driven partnerships across Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and Namibia.
Our name means "the Brave Ones" in Zimbabwe's Shona language — a name that belongs to the women rangers and local communities at the heart of everything we do.
We believe women's leadership in conservation is one of the most powerful forces for protecting the natural world. That conviction shapes everything we do, from ranger training to ecosystem stewardship to building nature-based economies in rural communities.
To date, we safeguard 13.1 million acres of critical ecosystems across Africa, protecting the species and communities that depend on them. For over 17 years, we have supported or led 50+ conservation initiatives, creating lasting impact for people and wildlife alike.
