Born into a family of musicians and shaped by the Soviet tradition of absolute discipline, Scherbakov studied at the Purcell School of Music in London, the Eastman School of Music in New York and the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles. His teachers form a direct lineage through violin history: Detlef Hahn, Zakhar Bron, Oleh Krysa and Alice Schonfeld.
