The Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization and nonpartisan organization of retired trade union members affiliated with the AFL-CIO, which founded it in 2001. The group's membership also includes non-union, community-based activists. Its predecessor organization was known as the National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSC).

The Alliance for Retired Americans is 4.4 million members strong. Our retiree activists live in every state and come from all walks of life. We are former teachers, industrial and construction workers, health care professionals, state and federal government workers, and community leaders – all united in the belief that every American deserves a secure and healthy retirement after a lifetime of hard work. Founded by the AFL-CIO Executive Council in 2001, the Alliance now includes 40 state alliances and hundreds of local chapters.
