Antonio Inoki was a Japanese professional wrestler, professional wrestling trainer, martial artist, politician, and promoter of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts (MMA). He is best known as the founder and 33-year owner of New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). He is considered to be one of the most influential professional wrestlers of all time, and one of the biggest key influences on MMA in Japan and internationally.

家業は石炭問屋を営んでいたが戦後のエネルギー需要が石炭から石油にシフトしたのを受け、13歳の時に一家でブラジルに移住する。
早朝5時からのコーヒー豆収穫を行いながら、砲丸投げ競技で頭角を顕し、地元大会で優勝して話題となる。
【格闘家として】
猪木は自身の最強を証明するため、格闘技の英雄アクラム・ペールワン、「熊殺し」の異名をとる空手家ウィリー・ウィリアムスとの対戦など、異種格闘技路線への挑戦を続け、後年の総合格闘技の礎を築いた。
中でもプロボクシング統一世界ヘビー級チャンピオン、モハメド・アリとの一戦は世界各国に中継され話題を呼んだ。ゴングと共に、タックル、投げ技、関節技などを禁止された猪木はアリの足元にスライディングをして、アリを転倒させる作戦に出たが失敗。それから猪木は幾度となくリングの上に寝転がり、アリの足を集中的に蹴った。そんな猪木の攻め方に、少し苛立ちを感じたアリは猪木に立つように挑発。猪木も何度か立ち上がりはしたものの、またアリの足を狙いに寝転がった。 猪木の蹴りによるダメージは確実にアリに蓄積していたが、試合中では足の痛みを晒け出すことなく常に軽やかなステップを踏み続けた。 互いに決定打を出すことはできず3分15ラウンドを戦い抜き、引き分けという結果に終わった。試合後、猪木のキックによりアリの太ももは激しく腫れ上がり、膝の裏に血栓症を患い、5年後の現役引退の大きな要因になった。
