Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company is the largest and oldest shipping company on the Caspian Sea. History of shipping industry of Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea dates back to the middle of 19th century when first vessels were constructed and put into operation. Azerbaijan State Shipping Company was established in 1858 as "Caucasus and Mercury JSC". During 19th and 20th centuries it was the largest shipping company on the Caspian sea, transporting both crude oil and dry cargos among all the Caspian Sea countries.
Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company in its current state was created by the Presidential order on 22 October 2013. According to the Presidential decree two state-owned entities: 1. Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company which was mainly involved in cargo shipping and 2. Caspian Sea Oil Fleet offshore service operation division of the SOCAR were merged and Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company was created.
