Biography

Ben Castle is a British jazz musician, the younger son of television presenter and entertainer Roy Castle (1932–1994) and his wife Fiona. He placed first in the Jazz category of the 2003 International Songwriting Competition with his song "The Heckler".

Ben is an award-winning musician, composer, arranger, songwriter & producer. He has worked with a vast array of artists across many genres, including Gregory Porter, Radiohead, Blur, Amy Winehouse, Quincy Jones, Villagers, Matthew Herbert, Little Simz, Stan Tracey, Paloma Faith, George Michael, Matthew E White, Lianne La Havas, Sting, Jools Holland, and has featured heavily on many soundtracks, including Sex Education, Staged, Motherland & Toast of London.

With Ben’s love and grasp of so many music styles and his ability to blur the genre lines, he has become a sought-after composer. He most recently scored the Grammy winning film, Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story with Paul Pilot. The song Wrapped Around Your Little Finger, written with Beth Rowley for An Education made it onto the Oscar nomination shortlist.

The latest release from Ben Castle and the Blah Street Band, ‘Cut Loose – A Lesson in Jazz’, features Matt Berry, giving a definitive explanation of what jazz is.
