Biography
The Buxton International Festival is an annual summer festival of opera, music and a literary series, held in Buxton, Derbyshire, England since its beginnings in July 1979. The 2020 festival was cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis. The 2024 Buxton International Festival was scheduled for 4–21 July.

Recognised nationally and internationally as one of the UK’s leading arts festivals, Buxton International Festival have a reputation for offering once-in-a-life-time opportunities to hear sublime but rarely performed operas. Internationally acclaimed singers, musicians and literary speakers are all attracted to our festival and spa town.
In 2019 BIF celebrated its 40th anniversary by reviving the genre of opera pasticcio with a specially written work Georgiana. The critically acclaimed and award winning opera depicted the story of the exuberant 5th Duchess of Devonshire – whose family, at the nearby Chatsworth estate, remain inextricably entwinned with Buxton.
BIF has evolved to become more than just a summer celebration. Work happens all year round providing opportunities for young musicians and rising stars.
