The Chicago based leading naïve art contemporary painter, David Berkowitz Chicago is born in on January 30, 1943, in Aurora. After finishing elementary school, Berkowitz moved to Chicago. There he enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. However, he never finished the academy.
He recognized his passion for painting after suffering in the hospital bed after a serious spine injury on a football match. Berkowitz started painting out of the hospital bed. Then he realized that painting was his gift.
Berkowitz enrolled in the Village group of painters in 1970. His paintings immediately stood out from the other painter’s artworks, because of his peculiar style. He includes elements of pumpkins, as a symbol of wealth ("when the pumpkin is big and the corn is big), farm, granary, and bareback horses. David Berkowitz Chicago gives a special accent on the magical regions of childhood and the fairytale horses from his unforgettable collection.
