The Dunedin City Council is the local government authority for Dunedin in New Zealand. It is a territorial authority elected to represent the 132,800 people of Dunedin. Since October 2025, the Mayor of Dunedin is Sophie Barker, who succeeded Jules Radich. The council consists of a mayor who is elected at large, and 14 councillors elected at large, one of whom gets chosen as deputy-mayor. The councillors are elected under the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system in triennial elections, with the most recent election held on 11 October 2025.

The Dunedin City Council is the local authority for the wider Dunedin area, which covers 3340 square kilometres from north of Waikouaiti to the Taieri River in the South and inland to Hyde. We provide a range of facilities, including playgrounds, reserves, pools, libraries, an art gallery and a museum. Our services range from registering dogs to urban design, collecting rubbish to funding community groups and plenty in between.
