Zweck der Stiftung ist es, Wissenschaft und Forschung in Berlin auf internationalem Spitzenniveau zu fördern und das Land dauerhaft als attraktiven Wissenschaftsstandort zu etablieren. Neben den Erlösen aus dem Stiftungskapital stehen der Stiftung Mittel des Landes zur Verfügung. Förderprojekte werden von einer hochkarätig besetzten, unabhängigen wissenschaftlichen Kommission ausgewählt. Zustiftungen und Fördergelder sind willkommen.
