Biography

The International Council on Monuments and Sites is a professional association that works for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage places around the world. Now headquartered in Charenton-le-Pont, France, ICOMOS was founded in 1965 in Warsaw as a result of the Venice Charter of 1964 and offers advice to UNESCO on World Heritage Sites.

ICOMOS, the International Council on Monuments and Sites, is a unique non-governmental, democratic not-for-profit international organisation committed to furthering the conservation, protection, use and enhancement of the world’s cultural heritage. ICOMOS is dedicated to the development of common doctrines, the evolution and circulation of knowledge, the creation of improved conservation techniques, and the promotion of cultural heritage significance.

ICOMOS, le Conseil international des monuments et des sites, est une organisation internationale non-gouvernementale unique, démocratique et à but non lucratif qui a pour mission de promouvoir la conservation, la protection, l’utilisation et la mise en valeur du patrimoine culturel à travers le monde. L’ICOMOS se consacre à l’élaboration des doctrines, à l’évolution et la diffusion de la connaissance, à l’amélioration des techniques de conservation et à la sensibilisation à l’importance du patrimoine.
