Channel description

Dr Indra Hughes is an organist, conductor, choirtrainer, harpsichordist, broadcaster and speaker based in Auckland, New Zealand. This channel presents a number of recordings of his performances, many that are not available elsewhere.

Indra received his early musical training at Blackburn Cathedral and at Oriel College, Oxford where he was Organ Scholar. His organ teachers were David Cooper and John Scott. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and holds the GH Knight Memorial Prize for the RCO Choir Training examinations. He came to NZ in 1995 to take up the position of Organist and Director of Music at Auckland Cathedral. He founded Musica Sacra, which became one of NZ's most successful choirs, and was its conductor for 15 years. He was the first person in NZ to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts after a series of organ performances and his thesis on the unfinished ending of Bach's The Art of Fugue (see link below).
