His critically praised translation of Lucan's Civil War (2012) is in the Penguin Classics, with positive reviews in the New Republic and elsewhere. His apocalyptic pastoral poem Butte County is samizdat on Lulu. His Ph.D. dissertation (2005, Princeton) is a global study of musical cultures in the prehistoric, ancient, and premodern indigenous worlds. He has taught Greek and Latin classics and humanities at several universities large and small, and has translated or edited several books. His album Battle Mountain was released 5/30/2021. He reads Latin, ancient Greek, Spanish, Italian, French, German, ancient Chinese, and Sanskrit.
