Morio Matsui was born in Toyohashi, Aichi. He studied at the Musashino College of Fine Art in Tokyo.
In 1967, He moved to Paris, France, on a French government scholarship.
He continued my studies at the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
And He was heavily influenced by encounter with Pablo Picasso.
He have been based in Corsica on the occasion of my solo exhibition at the Fesch Museum in 1997.
He was awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2000, and France's Legion of Honour in 2003.
